TerraSheild Coir Erosion Control Blanket / Coir Mat is manufactured from 100% coconut fiber. Top and bottom covered with UV stabilized black polypropylene net stitching together with a black thread to produce the blanket. The coconut fiber is evenly distributed with-in the net in a roll form. They are shipped in polythene bags with ventilation holes. This blanket is designed for 3-4 years life span in the normal condition.

Installation
Vegetation Establishment : Seeding can be undertaken prior to blanket installation and seedlings can grow up through the blanket. Alternatively seeding can undertake after installation and sown on to the blanket.
Hydro seeding is also an effective seed application method over large areas and will provide further support for vegetation growth. Wildflower and aquatic plants and shrubs can be inserted through the coir mesh after installation and the blanket will provide support to vegetation establishment.
Overlapping and Anchorage – Sufficient overlap and anchorage is the key to the success of erosion control blanket products.
A Coir Erosion Control Blanket (ECB) is a biodegradable erosion control mat manufactured from mechanically extracted coconut husk fibers. It is commonly known as the Coir Erosion Control Blanket in India. The fibers are woven or stitched into open-weave or mesh structures using coir yarn. Manufacturing processes ensure uniform GSM, controlled aperture size, and consistent tensile strength to meet slope stabilization requirements.
They are widely used in highway slopes, railway embankments, hill roads, canal linings, riverbanks, and landscaping projects, across India by reliableCoir erosion control blanket suppliers India.
Depending on GSM and environmental conditions, coir blankets typically last 24–36 months, allowing sufficient time for vegetation establishment. This is one of the main reasons why engineers prefer solutions from the best coir erosion control blanket supplier in India.
Yes, when combined with vegetation, coir blankets provide long-term erosion protection through root reinforcement.
Common GSM ranges include 400, 700, 900, and 1200 GSM, selected based on slope angle and hydraulic conditions, making these a cost-effective coir erosion control blanket solution.
Yes, they are 100% natural, biodegradable, eco-friendly, and compliant with green infrastructure guidelines.
Coir blankets are preferred because they offer temporary mechanical erosion control combined with long-term bio-engineering. In railway embankments and hill roads, early-stage erosion during monsoons is critical. Coir blankets:
• Reduce surface runoff velocity
• Protect freshly compacted embankment slopes
• Enable rapid vegetation establishment
• Meet eco-restoration norms mandated in hilly and forest zones
In Indian Railways and Metro projects, coir blankets are commonly used for:
• New BG embankment slopes
• Cutting slopes in hill sections
• RE wall back slopes
• Approaches to bridges and ROBs
• Landslide-prone zones identified in DPRs
Yes, as a bio-engineering solution, not as a structural element. Once vegetation establishes, root reinforcement provides permanent erosion resistance, aligning with sustainable slope stabilization guidelines. These are followed by the best coir erosion control blanket supplier in India.
Typically24–36 months, depending on:
• Soil pH
• Rainfall intensity
• UV exposure
• Microbial activity
This duration is ideal for root matrix development, after which vegetation takes over erosion resistance.
